About the Breed
Bichon Poodles (also known as Poochons or Bichpoos) are a cross between between a Bichon Frise and Miniature Poodle. This crossbreed inherits the friendliness and loveable nature of the Bichon with the intelligence and loyalty of the Poodle. If you are looking for a lifelong friend, companion, and pet, this breed is the one for you.
Physical Characteristics
Our Bichon Poodles measure anywhere between 9-15 inches and weigh between 11-14 pounds. It is considered a small dog breed, suitable for indoors. They are born with almond-shaped eyes, long ears hanging around its head, and a short snout. It’s most distinctive feature, however, is the wooly coat that comes from the purebred Bichon. Our pups typically have the apricot or lighter tan colouring with white markings.
Health Concerns
Just like any breed, the Bichon Poodle can be predisposed to the same health conditions as it's parents, which is why it is important to maintain good care and regular veterinary checkups.
Some of the more common health problems associated with the breeds are Patellar Luxa-tion, Retinal Atrophy, Allergies, Addison's Disease, Bladder Issues, Crushing's Disease, and Periodontal Disease.
Friendliness & Nature
The Bichon Poodle has the intelligence of the Poodle and the friendly and funny nature of the Bichon Frise. They are sweet, affectionate, lively and playful. Since both the parents are intelligent breeds, they are generally smart and relatively easy to train.
Because they are a very social dog, they can develop separation anxiety if they are left alone for long periods of time. The happiest Bichon Poodle is the one who receives lots of attention.
Adapatability
Bichon Poodles are excellent for novice owners. They adapt very well to small living spaces. They are a loving companion for adults, children, and strangers, which makes it one of the best family dogs. It is also very friendly toward other dogs, as long as he/she gets enough attention from it's owner.
Coat & Care
Bichon Poodles are considered a hypoallergenic dog breed. It's coat causes minimal shedding, which makes it a good option for owners with allergies or for those who love a clean house. Just like their parents, their coats are quite high maintenance. We recommend brushing daily and grooming every two months.
Exercise & Life Span
With alert and active parents, the Bichon Poodle will be no different. This mix needs daily exercise for at least 30 minutes. They have a lot of energy to burn.
The lifespan of this crossbreed is generally 12-15 years.
